What is our Next Mission Horizon?  The Discernment Year

St. Francis & St. George’s

What is the next mission horizon for St. Francis?

For some time, St. Francis has gone without a sustained pastoral leadership, and the Vestry have been wondering what the best way would be to continue to follow our mission and grow. To proclaim the healing and transformative power of Jesus Christ to a hurting world as a church.

Springboro has been tripling in size in recent decades, at a rate faster than almost any other community. In the middle of this growth corridor, our church was approached by St. George’s Episcopal Church to enter into a Discernment Year.

From August 2025 to the summer of 2026, St. Francis and St. George will take a full year to discern whether we would like to merge, become one parish, and officially become a South Campus to St. George’s. With the blessing of the diocesan leadership, we will carefully and prayerfully consider if this would be the best solution for everyone.

But we are not there yet, we are only in the Discernment Year. Once the year concludes, and if clear benchmarks are meet, we will then ask the question, should we merge.
